Course and Credit Options: HPEX 491: 3 undergraduate credits
The VCU Office of International Education and one of its 15 International Partnership Universities, St. Petersburg State University are pleased to offer a unique opportunity to study abroad in Russia. On July 15th, 2011 students will travel to Moscow for two days for immersion into history and culture and will then take a train to their final destination of St. Petersburg. Students will gain a specific breadth and depth of the Russian healthcare system, learn about outreach programs, attend lectures, and learn about policy initiatives with non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Course description: This course will engage VCU students and non-students in a cultural and structured academic experience in St Petersburg and Moscow. Students will have the chance to attend lectures in curricular tracks dedicated to: substance abuse, infectious diseases, mental health, teen health, women’s health, and the major disease states such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiac disease. A thorough review of the Russian healthcare system will be analyzed and students will be given the choice to work with an outreach specialist for a day.
Program Cost: $4,100 + applicable VCU tuition
