The Affordable Care Act is 1 year old. While several important provisions have taken effect, full implementation of the new law is far from certain. Cuts proposed in Congress may both undermine the law and jeopardize existing public health programs. The time to engage is now, and we need your participation.
The public health community is coming together for a pivotal conference June 23-25 in Chicago to discern the next steps in implementing health reform from a public health and population-based perspective. The American Public Health Association Midyear Meeting: Implementing Health Reform — A Public Health Approach will draw public health officials, administrators, practitioners and partners to learn more about advancing prevention and wellness and improving the health of our communities as we transform our nation’s health system.
This meeting, which APHA is organizing in partnership with many national public health organizations, is designed to provide a forum for those interested in moving from a medical care delivery system to a system that assures health and wellness. It will equip attendees with the tools needed for implementing the provisions of the new law and improving health in communities across the country.
We value you as a colleague and encourage you and your members, staff and partners to participate in this important event. Please share information about the APHA Midyear Meeting with your constituents. You can learn more at www.apha.org/midyear. Early-bird registration deadline is April 15.
We hope you will join us for what we expect to be an interesting, engaging and provocative conference in June at the APHA Midyear Meeting: Implementing Health Reform — A Public Health Approach.
